The sell feature within the carsales app is designed to optimise the process of selling vehicles for individual users.
My Role
Building on the existing sell process, I played a pivotal role on the team, taking ownership of the user experience and user interface design. I collaborated closely with a product owner, designers, developers, and key stakeholders to deliver a seamless and intuitive solution.
The Challenge
Reduce the time in creating an ad by simplifying the creation and payment process, ensuring all necessary car details are accurately captured. The current UI is outdated across all platforms and devices.
01. Ad creation took too long. 02. Inconsistencies between platforms 03. Unintuitive ad management.
The Solution
The redesigned sell feature offers a fast, user friendly way to create, manage, and list car ads with better accuracy.
01. Simplified ad creation steps. 02. Easy ad management dashboard. 03. Reduce ad creation time.
II. Design Process
Research
Before beginning, I researched several ad creation tools in similar apps like eBay, Gumtree and other car market apps to benchmark against industry standards and identify innovative features that could be adapted. We found the eBay ad creation process the most effective and intuitive.

Information Architecture
I organised all content from the existing sell flow into a sitemap. This provided a clear structure and source of truth to ensure a consistent experience across all platforms and devices.

Defining the Experience
The first step was to update the core navigation and remove the existing side navigation and relocate it within the main screen.
Relocation of core navigation
With more research I settled on using the native behaviour for the core navigation. Users would push in to access each section and then push out to exit, providing a seamless interaction experience.
Navigating between sections
I began creating low fidelity wireframes to outline the new flow. My main focused included simplifying the navigation and reducing the number of steps required to post an ad.
Worked with product and developers to ensure designs were feasible and could be implemented effectively.
Next step was to develop interactive prototypes to simulate the ad creation experience. This helped in visualising the flow, interactive elements, and overall user interaction.
Low-fidelity wireframes
Presented prototypes to developers, product and stakeholders, and a subset of users for feedback.
Worked closely with developers throughout the design process to address any technical constraints. This included regular meetings to review designs, discuss implementation challenges, and refine the design for optimal performance and user experience.
III. Final Designs
01
Add car details
02
Main form details
03
Populated ad /checkout and Manage ads
IV. Outcome
We first launched the new sell product with our international marketplace Chilieautos. After thoroughly testing it we rolled it out across the carsales platform.
Baseline measurements The new design significantly enhances user navigation, making it easier for sellers to list their vehicles with fewer steps and less confusion, speeding up the listing process by 30%.
